Our Faculty

Our teachers are caring and nurturing, as well as knowledgeable about Early Childhood education and development.  Our incredible student-teacher ratio allows our dedicated staff to truly get to understand each child.  Through that relationship, they are able to craft classroom and curricula that is reflective of the personalities, interests and families of the children.

The school has a strong commitment to continued professional growth, and the entire faculty participates in ongoing staff development and training.  All of our Head and Associate teachers have either earned or are working towards an MA in Early Childhood education.

Our Community:

Community is a vital part of our identity and ethos.  We encourage parent participation and offer a variety of ways for parents to feel at home in our school. The parent community enriches the school and synagogue community by sharing their interests, abilities and time with us. Relationships between families and the school become stronger through participation in school events. Families often develop long lasting friendships that continue on beyond their children’s preschool years.

Parent involvement opportunities include attending Parent Association events, becoming a Class Parent and participating in committees such as the Book Fair Committee, Challah Club, Spring Benefit Committee, or Chesed Committee. Parents are also encouraged to attend Parent Breakfast Seminars led by our Preschool Consultant.

Admissions/Exmissions:

Brooklyn Heights Synagogue Preschool is part of the diverse Reform Brooklyn Heights Synagogue community.  Our applicants and families come from a wide array of backgrounds and need not be synagogue members.  Our school attracts people who share values and commitments to fostering children’s joy of learning and discovery.

As BHS Preschool places great value on personal contact and community, applications are available only after completing a school tour.  They cannot be ordered, picked up or downloaded.

In order to apply to our Preschool, children must have turned two by May 31 of the spring preceding their entry. For younger children we offer classes and a partial separation program through our Parenting Center

Tours are available in the fall immediately prior to your child’s year of entry and can be reserved via phone beginning on the day after Labor Day each year.  You can reach us at 718-522-2070 x126 to register for a tour.

Applications are due at the end of December, along with a $95 application fee.

After your application is complete, you will be invited with your child to come for a 25 minute group play visit in January or February. This visit is an organized play session that provides children with an initial exposure to the classroom environment and gives parents an opportunity to speak with one of our admissions professionals.

Admissions are made according to the ISAAGNY calendar.  Applicants are notified by mail.
